News for the Week of: August 28 - September 5, 2008
Math:
We will begin the year wtih review. It will include reading, identifying, and writing numbers to 100, identifying one more and one less than a number, graphing data on a graph, telling and showing time to the hour, addition facts (doubles with sums to 18), and identifying the attributes of pattern block.
Phonics:
Letters n, o, and t will be reviewed.
Literature:
We are beginning the year with Little Bear by Else Holmelund Minarik.
Geography:
We will sing the continents and oceans song as we look at a map of the world. Then go quickly on to map skills - reading a key and direction words.
History:
We begin with understanding history and archaeology. We will be sharing our All About Me posters and going on a timeline trek to explore each child's history. Then we will start learning history when we discuss the earliest people - nomads.
Bible:
Genesis 1 - We begin at the beginning of the Bible with the creation story.
Science:
We will put together our science journals and start learning about vertebrate animals.
Grammar:
Quiggly will be introduced and students will learn about O(Outstanding)-Quiggley days. These include: Get Organized, Listen, Plan your time, and Do Homework. We will also learn our first 2 jingles: complete sentences and nouns.
Important Notes:
P.E. is on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday - Please send your child to school wearing their gym shoes.
Remember to send in a healthy snack daily.
